Rose buds
The dog rose is a climbing variety of wild rose found throughout Eurasia and western Africa. Like its botanical cousins, the plant bursts into bloom in summer. In contrast, however, the delicate white, pink, or red rose petals are void of any detectable scent. Regardless, the flowers are edible and used fresh in salads and soups or as garnishment for cakes and other baked goods. Dried rose petals are added to herbal tea blends and are used to make infusions for use in salves, ointments, and lotions.
Rosa canina is a climbing wild rose species native to Europe, northwest Africa and western Asia.
There's nothing wrong with making rose hips a part of your daily diet, but don't count on the bright red fruits—or the prepackaged teas containing them—to supply all the vitamin C you need.
If you’re using dried petals or buds, place 1 tablespoon of either in a cup and steep them in boiling water for 10–20 minutes. Different brands may recommend specific water temperatures and brewing times.
The tea can be drunk plain or sweetened with a little honey. The flavor is light, subtle, and floral and can range from bitter to sweet depending on the variety.
