Horny goat weed is a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. Horny goat weed for men is thought to improve sexual function by increasing blood flow to the penis.1 Native to Asia, it is one of the various herb species. It is also known as Epimedium, yin yang huo, and herbal "Viagra."
Horny goat weed (yin yang huo) is a flowering, perennial member of the barbery family that is indigenous to China, Korea and Japan. The herb has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine to address depleted kidney yang and declining virility. Horny goat weed powder is typically taken in capsule form, but it may also be prepared as an infusion or added to beverages.

Horny Goat Weed and Erectile Dysfunction

Some people believe that horny goat weed can also improve sexual function in women. The supplement is sometimes also used to treat health problems after menopause, such as high cholesterol and low estrogen.11
People who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use horny goat weed.
High doses may cause nausea, vomiting or respiratory distress. Do not combine PDE-5 inhibiting prescription drugs with this herb. Do not use this herb if you have heart disease. Do not use this herb if you take aromatase inhibitors (anastrozole, letrozole, exemestane) or drugs metabolized by the cytochrome P450 3A4 enzyme.
